Liability Insurance Programs

Educators Employment Liability (EEL) Program

The EEL program is a professional liability insurance program that NEA provides as a benefit of membership. The program is totally dues-funded; members pay no separate fee. It is designed to protect employees from personal financial liability for most incidents arising out of their employment activities or duties. The basics of the most important parts of the coverage are as follows:

Association Liability Insurance

This Liability coverage provides protection from claims against the Association (State or Local), Officers, Directors or Employees of the Association. The limits of liability are as follows:

    ·        $1,500,000 Each Occurrence
    ·        $5,000,000 Maximum Annual Aggregate

Life Insurance Programs

Free Life Insurance

Ø      $1,000 Term Insurance

Ø      $5,000 Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D)

Ø      While on the job, $50,000 AD&D and $150,000 in case of unlawful homicide.

Group Rate Life Insurance Plans (Voluntary)

Ø      Decreasing Term Life Insurance $50,000 to 150,000 (Spouse can be covered for 50% of your coverage amount, and children are also eligible for a partial amount)

Ø      Preferred Term Life Insurance $100,000 to $500,000 (10, 15 or 20 year terms)

Ø      Level Premium Life Insurance Plan provides up to $250,000 of decreasing term life insurance coverage with a premium that doesn’t increase.

Ø      Guaranteed Issue AD&D Insurance provides up to $130,000 in coverage at home or away, and up to $520,000 for any covered accident on a plane, train, ship, or other public conveyance.

Ø      Home Protection Insurance Plan provides group rates for coverage from $10,000 to $300,000 in decreasing term life insurance coverage with periods ranging from 10 to 30 years. Your spouse can be covered for an additional NEA group rate premium, and there is an optional disability benefit that provides income protection for up to 12 months.

Ø      Guaranteed Issue Life Insurance Plan provides NEA members 50 and older with up to $10,000 worth of decreasing term life insurance coverage, depending on their age. There are no medical exams and you cannot be turned down for this coverage.

Health & Disability Programs

Ø   Critical Illness Benefit provides supplemental insurance for active members of NEA 18-64, which helps you protect your savings from the catastrophic effects of serious illness. You are paid a lump-sum benefit of up to $100,000 upon diagnosis of a covered condition. This is a great policy to replace your single-benefit cancer insurance or your mortgage life insurance.

Ø  Long-Term Care provides insurance for members, spouses, children, parents and parents-in-law (ages 18-100) to provide financial support to pay for long-term care services from nursing homes, assisted living and at-home care.

Ø  Medicare Supplement provides NEA members and their spouses, age 65 and older, with coverage in standard plan option A-J formats for hospital and medical expenses not covered by Medicare.

Ø  In-Hospital Plan is designed for members 18-69 to help make up the difference between your medical payments and actual hospital costs. Benefits are paid directly to you – up to $120 per day.

Ø  Income Protection Plan provides a benefit option of up to 66.67% of your annual salary in the event you become disabled.

Casualty Insurance Programs

       Ø    Homeowners Insurance – Protection for your home, condo, or townhouse – or possessions,
             if you rent – at affordable rates.

Ø Auto & Home Insurance – provides special rates and excellent coverage. You get                    $250 personal property coverage (from locked or unlocked insured vehicle); 7-day, 24-hour emergency claims service; and discounts for mature drivers and multiple vehicles. Optional unlimited towing and roadside assistance service is also available.

Legal Service Programs

Unified Legal Services Program (ULSP)

The NEA Unified Legal Services Program reimburses half of an affiliate’s eligible legal costs incurred in representing a member in approved cases. Typically, the Unified Legal Services Program will cover representation of a member who suffers an adverse job action. USEA will continue to provide work related legal services to members; the NEA ULS Program will provide additional resources that will significantly enhance USEA’s ability to represent members.

Lawyer Referral Program

The NEA Lawyer Referral Program provides members with legal advice on personal matters. Each member is entitled to two 30-minute consultation sessions free during each membership year. The consultations are limited to discussions of the member’s legal problems and to determine if further legal services are needed. If additional legal services are needed, they are billed at a rate of 30% less than fees normally charged by similar attorneys.

Loan & Mortgage Programs

Ø      Line of Credit – You can access from $500 to $25,000 with special access checks at a preferred members-only interest rate. There is no annual fee, application fee, or collateral required.

Ø      Personal Loan – the cash you need at low, members-only rates. You can borrow from $3,000 to $25,000 with loan terms that range from 24 to 84 months and affordable low-monthly payments. You can receive your loan decision, over the phone, in as little as 10 minutes.

Ø      Home Financing Program – the smart way to buy a home, refinance, or secure a home equity loan. The NEA Home Financing Program provided by Wells Fargo Home Mortgage offers you great rates and superior service.
